Uncle Seng is a veteran hawker who has been frying Char Kway Teow for decades. Headstrong and gruff, he refuses to acknowledge his mental decline, even as he begins losing his grip on the world around him—imagining and interacting with the child audience as ingredients like shrimp, garlic, and eggs. With his beloved stall facing closure, Seng struggles to recall the family’s secret recipe and pass it on to his son, David, a private chef still searching for his culinary identity.
About the Show:
This June holidays, dive into Char Kway Teow Rhapsody—a sizzling, soul-stirring adventure in which children role-play as the lively ingredients in Uncle Seng’s iconic dish while he battles dementia’s slow unravelling. Beginning at nostalgic Armenian Street, families embark on a whimsical pre-game before entering a kaleidoscope of scents, sounds, and stories. Blending immersive theatre, cooking, and play, this is an intergenerational, sensory-rich journey through the vanishing world of the hawker trade—inviting children and adults to rediscover what it means to belong, one stir-fry at a time.
