Sofia
14 years old, Singapore, Singapore
Sofia, who is 9 years old, first discovered her love of singing at the age of 5, when she told her Mum and Dad that she was going to perform in her school assembly. She chose to sing the song - "It’s a hard knock life” - from the musical, Annie.
Soon afterwards she attended a summer camp run by Anton Luitingh and Duane Alexander of Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy (LAMTA) in collaboration with Base Entertainment. Anton and Duane introduced her to the Importance or being a triple threat performer - i.e. being able to sing, dance and act at the same time. Ever since then, Sofia has dreamed of being a triple threat performer. Whether it is at her weekly classes at Centre Stage, her singing lessons with Yvette Atienza or her participation in the Singapore Symphony Children’s Choir, Sofia never seems to tire when it comes to learning a new script, a new accent or a new song. The same cannot be said for her times tables!
Sofia’s first professional performance was in the musical Evita, the story of Eva Peron, which played at the Marina Bay Sands Theatre in 2018. She loved being part of the team of children who participated In this. She also played Ugly in Centre Stage's performance of Honk, a modern version of the Ugly Duckling.
Recently, Sofia played Matilda in Matilda the Musical, which played at Marina Bay Sands Theatre. She is having a short break before joining the cast in their international tour in June.
Playing Matilda is a dream come true for Sofia. Like Matilda, Sofia loves reading. She also loves to have sleepovers with her friends and to play with her elder sister, Tara. Sofia attends school at United World College SEA Dover Campus and is currently in Grade 4.
