Swathi
24 years old, North-East Region, Singapore
grew up immersed in cultures across Southeast Asia - including China, Malaysia, and India. I committed to a pre-professional dance training at fifteen years old in ballet and hip-hop. After taking my first contemporary class at eighteen, I was inspired by its organic movement practice and deepened my education through the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Dance program at Boston Conservatory at Berklee (2025). There, I trained in modern forms by Kurt Douglas (Limón), Jim Viera (Horton), and Ruka Hutua-Saar
(Graham). I also developed a keen sense for commercial and theatrical movement through
heels, hip-hop, acting, and clowning for dancers.
My personal movement is driven by the pulse of West African dance as performed in 'Shelter' by Jowale Willa Jo Zollar, with artists Baye & Asa, and multiple other student works. Practicing contemporary blends by NVA & Guests, GALLIM, Countertechnique, and the Alexander Technique have greatly supported my investigation. Intensives with pair Danae & Dionysius and Jose Agudo, past and present company dancers for Akram Khan, have enhanced my appreciation for culturally rooted art forms.
Utilizing this wealth of knowledge in my body and intrinsic identity, I aspire to broaden my career into modeling, fashion, movement directing, commercial dance, and film. Eager to partake in art that unveils our truths, I believe in its ability to invoke and evoke progress within our communities and us.
